Today I'm giving some advice off-vein from my usual Technology centric education – but just as important!!
Instead, more a business development and strategy topic – saving money on all those miscellaneous technology based services and tools we use in our business!!
This guide also applies really to any type of “expenses tracking” and identification!!
The problem is that (for most) expenses can easily accumulate and make a negative impact on our finances if we don't watch what we have and are signing up for!!
The way to solve this is pretty easy once you know how...
Create a spreadsheet or other e-document with all your technology expenses listed; this can be time consuming if starting from scratch, but worth it!!
It's important to list not only provider\service name and amount being paid out, but also “What are you using this for, it's benefit to you”.
When your building this file, create bucket groups to place expenses in:
With this list, sum everything up – generate a per year amount + per month; usually this is a shocker – higher amount than desired AND that the business can't afford!!
From here, create your Budget (that you now have incentive to create and stick to)
Based on these 2 “documents” you can start to make key decisions on Keep-It or Cancel-It
This way, at a glance, you know where you are: if your overspending or have room to grow with the important piece of mind (or not) that your finances are in-check with more income than expense!!!
That's the beauty of this system.
Bottom line, you won't know what to cut, what you really don't need OR use, until you take these steps versus the Must-Haves....
If the numbers are not where they need to be, create your action plan for change based on the 2 documents above and then work it....
Once you know and keep up-to-date “your numbers” than you can rest easy on a monthly basis!!!
