Web-mail is VERY popular especially when using a Free email host – Gmail, Yahoo etc.
Web-mail refers to accessing (send, receive and organize) an email account using your login in your browser.
Is it just me OR do you find Web-mail to have “some negatives”
Slow load, refresh and actions processing
Heavy display of ads
You are forced into using the Email Host layout of your folders plus can be hard to locate a specific saved email
These are some of the annoyances I've found in both Gmail and Yahoo; the email client they provide.
It is not much better when you use a Domain-Based email account (Paid email using your own domain name) – when you access in a browser.
Most business focus Email hosts provide a Web-mail interface.
Let's face it – the web can be slow and riddled with ads that you cant eliminate in the browser!! This is the default behavior when you depend on Web-Mail!!!
Another common scenario for us busy people and entrepreneurs – is to have multiple email addresses that we check and organize on a regular or daily basis.
These multiple emails comprise both Free Email and multiple Domain-based Emails.
Most again, have multiple individual accounts open across multiple browser tabs – all slowing down your device and having to deal with the negatives “in multiple” that I outlined above!!
For myself I have multiple Free and Domain Paid Email addresses – and I have both personal, Toastmasters and Business emails that I need to MANAGE.

An application like this is called an Email Client and is INSTALLED on your device – these typically are not Free; BUT usually a one-time purchase and use model!! AND No Web-mail required.
